Interminable murmur emanating
from the refrigerator
married to the steady drone
of the freezer above.
Orbital overhead buzzing
of electric incandescence.
Muted monotone laughs,
muffled conversation
through connecting walls.
Thudding footsteps
on the upstairs floor
that is, in turn,
my downstairs ceiling.
The Doppler consonance
of tires on asphalt stream
from the interstate
outside the apartment window.
All incessant hives
of activity.
Everything hums.
Here I sit,
a wrangler of noise
awash in rhythms of reality,
a hapless conductor
harnessing the grandest
of symphonies.
