Licton Springs Review

Ode to WaterBy Patricia Herlevi

The great cleanser, shower me
with mist, make me clean and
lily white, like untouched snow
before human hands or feet,
before the automobile has
plowed through, leaving its
black marks behind, before its
tire tracks have scarred the white
and silent earth.

Water, as you pour yourself down
over red and yellow tulips, as you
lick the blossoms on the fruit trees,
pink and white cotton candy floss
you devour spring, leaving your
perfume lingering in the air.

You send your salty taste back
into the ocean, clinging to the spines
of salmon as they hurry to their final
destination.
The natural cycle, air, water, fire and earth.

I feel the winds upon me again
and I drink from your sacrifice.
