Licton Springs Review

Dolby SoundBy Fumiko Schaub

with a click
grandpa makes
the whole neighborhood
theater-scale dolby sound.
the volcanic voice of
an anchorman erupts skyward,
though no use to decipher
what news he is delivering.
simultaneously the ground starts rumbling and windows chatter unmistakably.
then the shock wave reaches
our next-door neighbors.
in the midst of the whirring disaster he’s creating grandpa sits serenely
with one or two puffs of cigarette smoke swirling above his head.
but as soon as the first thundering noise crashes us hard, we spring up and
dash on a rescue mission
to recover grandpa’s headphones.
dolby ends abruptly,
silent tv screen returns.
